The dismal paralysis of much of the church comes not from an embroilment in immorality or materialism. Our disease is the doing of good things in the flesh that profits nothing and our failure to embrace the incarnation. Put another way this could be described as the almost universal practice of not living in the new covenant.
Millions of Christians live from the knowledge of good and evil in the belief that they are living from God. We are if Christ Himself is our life. We are not if we are living out of ‘Christianity.’
The beauty of our new covenant life is that Christ is our life. The insidious intent of the father of lies is the belief that we are our life, or that religion is our life, or that anything other than the person of Jesus is our life. The new covenant is not a theology or some special pleading on the meaning of Christian living. The new covenant is what God had in mind, what He did and what He accomplished for us in His Son. The new covenant is Jesus. It is who we are in God right now and forever. Since Jesus, that which He is we have become.
Recently in India we visited several house churches and attended street meetings. When we left some of them the deaf had received their hearing and according to the doctor a woman’s heart condition had been rectified. Healing miracles of Jesus are a sign that He is real and that we have a real life in Him. Healing and casting out of demons is normal at evangelist Reinhard Bonnke’s meetings as they are in Bill Johnson’s ministry. Yet we are not dependent on famous leaders. All of us have the capacity to multiply what Jesus began. This is our inheritance and our adventure. We can go for this or settle for the perpetuation of this thing we call ‘church.’
One cannot know oneself, other people or the world in anything less than Christ. He is God’s love for the world, the light of the world and the life of the earth. The mystery revealed is that this life, this Jesus, this fullness and completeness that is God resides in you by the Spirit of Sonship. The unfortunate bondage of law-bound denominations and old covenant culture is that none of the above is ours – because we have defined ourselves out of our inheritance. As Paul said in frustration, “Who has bewitched you!?”
‘You foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? Before your very eyes Jesus Christ was clearly portrayed as crucified’ Gal 3.1 NIV.
Our inheritance as daughters and sons is there for the taking. This inheritance was, it has come into being. It will always be. It is yours. Embrace what is yours.
This is a FB quote from Francois Du Toit of The Mirror Bible: Philippians 1:6 “I possess an inward certainty about you, confident that he who is the initiator of the good work within you is also the one who executes its completeness as demonstrated in Jesus Christ who is the light of day. He is the fullness of time. (Initiator, enarche, to rehearse from the beginning. See Eccl 3:15 That which has been is now; and that which is to be has already been)” Mirror Bible.
