‘For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death’ Rom 8.2 ESV.
Jesus Himself is the law of the Spirit of life. He is as superior to laws on stone or rules on paper as a living person is superior to a mummy.
Jesus is not the means of keeping the law or any other value system. He is all that is alive and righteous in Himself. Value systems, laws, and codes are shadows that point to Christ. The reality of living, being human and a son/daughter of God is Christ your life.
‘Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ’ Col 2.16.17 NIV.
Christ our righteousness means “I in my person am your righteousness and your life. I am your righteousness in regard grace and I am all that I desire you to be.”
To be joined to anything not Jesus is to be anchored to death. This is a corpse of deadness even if it is a system of noble values, the Ten Commandments or an internalised list of what it means to be a Christian. Our freedom and joy is to live in the spirit from the person of Jesus. Jesus is not a Christian. He is Himself. He is not subject to the law. He is the righteousness of God. In Him we are unhindered by extraneous baggage such as a sheep may have with dags hanging off it. We wear only his being inside and out.
‘For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God’ Col 3.3 NIV.
We are so, to speak, naked of human contrivance because we are clothed in the spirit of Christ. Set free like un-hobbled steeds we are released from weights and externalities to be galloping sons of God - not in pious conformity but in spirit and truth.
I have always been impatient of impediments to life. I am revolted by the confidence with which religion touts itself as life and aghast at representations of truth that are lies masquerading as an improvement on Christ. It is an appalling fact that genuine, sincere and intelligent people have embraced the perverse rendering of the Advent Message as an advance on the teaching of Jesus and the apostles.
It is a tragedy that an entire perspective and its culture is presented as the truth when it is a lie - with lesser lies distortions hanging off it like a row of piglets on a large white.
I was at a conference when the guest speaker advocated that all take steps to live a new covenant life. A leader responded with. "We will have to see how that fits with our theology." Pluralism does not apply to the gospel of the Kingdom. If our theology is not new covenant then we must align it with God’s theology of Himself!
If we are not new covenant we are in still in grace - but not participants of Kingdom life. We belong to a fellowship of the distortion, of the robbed and of the lie. We are free to Choose how Christ our life will be expressed. But none have the authority to emasculate the new covenant in favour of a theology and identity that contradicts the doctrine of the apostles.
‘O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death?’ Rm 7.24 KJB
A theology that is not the gospel of the Kingdom, not new covenant, and therefore not spirit and life is the body of death Paul describes. New covenant is not 'a theology.' It is what God achieved in Christ by setting us free from the living death of Adam, the frustration of Moses and absorbing us into His person, into His life, His grace and fellowship in the trinity.
A fog of death clings to all law-based religion. There is a flavour of death in all that is born of Ellen White. The law is a culture of death from which the Spirit and the Kingdom will not grow. Will not grow because the Kingdom grows out of persons, out of Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
To attempt to regenerate such a culture by adding Holy Spirit and His gifts is like sewing an arm on to a Frankenstein when he is well and truly dead. It will not take. “Who shall deliver us from this body of death?” You are delivered already. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God. Thanks be to God through Christ our life!
We have a choice. We can live from a culture that is the annulment of Christ or we can live from Christ Himself who is our life.
“I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me. I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!” Gal 2.20, 21 NIV.
