Last post I talked of the community that is ours a result of our being made one with the trinity and enveloped in the living persons of God. In God, which is where we have been placed, we are one with Father, Son and Holy Spirit, one with ourselves and one with each other - if we are in Christ and not in religion. This is a choice we all need to make. There is no growth until we have begun to related to a personal Jesus.

The Spirit of Sonship means that you are really a daughter. Really a son. This is the reality that is not fantasy, wishful thinking or ‘god-talk.’ We are sons because Father made us to be sons. We have been created to participate in the life of God – think life of the trinity here with ultra joy, complete individuality, all for each other and absolutely no smothering of anyone’s identity. I AM is God. I AM is of God. To be in God is to be yourself; to be in Father is to be a son; this is to be who you are and take your place as a co-creator in the new creation that is Christ in you.

‘Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!’ 2 Cor 5.17 NIV.

Personally I never took well to authority simply because it was authority. From a child I was intolerant of bad authority and unjust authority. I would burn with indignation when teachers abused pupils because they could. I experienced two abusive teachers. One in primary school and the other in high school. Later in life I silently endured the withering breath of non-life that flowed from a humanities lecturer. Abused by His barren religion and reared in what must really be called a ‘tare,’ he was in no position to bring life to others. He had conscientiously been socialised in a religion that was a non-gospel and a perversion of all that Jesus has accomplished for the Believer. Yet like a Muslim who thinks she is pleasing God by wearing a burkah, he imagined he was pleasing God by promoting the law. The result was a joyless life with a tendency towards religious abuse.

Not saying my own attitudes where always holy or wholesome. Some of me was shaped by rebellion and sin. But this was not its source. Intolerance of injustice comes from God. The perpetration and legitimation of unfairness and oppression comes from the one who abuses his children. I’m speaking of the father of lies.

Truth should always be valued and when necessary fought for. Many ‘busy-busy’ Believers are workers but not sons - oblivious to their blindness, unaware of their imprisonment in mediocrity and happy with their religious coma - betrayed into living without spirit and life by the father of lies and anyone who accommodates themselves to anything less than the fullness of Christ. It’s not good enough to subsist with a lesser christ and a lesser gospel because this is ‘your perspective’ and you are sticking to it. Little ones are often those who believed people whom they should have been able to trust.

‘If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea’ Mark 9.43 NIV.

If you understand and represent the gospel of the Kingdom, you will have to fight for it in some way. Apostolic people - sons of God represent the liberty and truth of God that is Christ our life. They know that real love always involves following their Lord to set the captives free.

‘I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other!’ Rev 3.15 NIV. Believers bound in legalistic non-life are not lazy. But they live minus spirit and life because they are tied to the law and are separated from union with God in their minds - yet not in the reality that is Christ. They possess a unity and intimacy with Him that is smothered by their veneration of the law.

When people give their lives as ministers and missionaries to spread a gospel that is not the gospel of the Kingdom it crucifies the Son of God anew and makes cripples out of converts. It’s not ok when so many people give their lives to promote a gospel that falls within the definition of ‘tares.’ Belong to the evil one does not mean that folks are evil. But it does mean that they are sons in so far that they have come under a perverted gospel of lies.

‘The field is the world, and the good seed represents the people of the Kingdom. The weeds are the people who belong to the evil one’ Matt 13.38 NIV.

Anything not true slanders God and diminishes people. Our weapons are not carnal. But neither are they an obsequious rationalisation of nonsense and false doctrine. Jesus was the truth and lived the truth. He was killed for being who He said He was: The Son of God.

The unfortunate record is that human beings – a certain segment of them - saw life and decided life must die to preserve their influence and status. Today people can find themselves doing the same to preserve their perspective, their identity and culture. But in doing so they smother Christ and cripple people. Their spirit dulls and their soul perishes and they foster a culture of stultification. There is a reason why the dullest in the class rise to positions of leadership. A culture of law kills people.

Isaiah 61.1-3 is particularly relevant to some denominations. Jesus is the door to infinite life. Jesus had the Spirit without limit so that you can live life without limit. Bound only in the Son of Man and alive in your spirit through Him, you are life-carrier and life-giver. With Christ as your life you have infinite scope for personal growth and a life-giving capacity to impart to others who are wounded, crippled by unbelief, bound in false doctrine and calcified in a religion that robs them of life.

‘The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free’ Luke 4.18 NIV.

Some Believer’s lives are smothered in religion. Others have a jerky, stilted spiritual gait from legalism. Some live mal-formed in the old covenant. Others live constricted in a bottle of false doctrine. Yet others live in an entire wine-skin of deviant theology that undoes the cross, denies the spirit and straps people in the law that we have already been set free from.

‘His son by the slave woman was born according to the flesh, but his son by the free woman was born as the result of a divine promise.
These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar. Now Hagar stands for Mount Sinai in Arabia and corresponds to the present city of Jerusalem, because she is in slavery with her children. But the Jerusalem that is above is free, and she is our mother. For it is written’ Gal 4.23-26 NIV.

You are duty bound in the authority of Jesus to set such people free because they are bound and crippled sons for whom Jesus died. He lives through you to bring fullness and completeness in Himself. The Bible says, ‘Now we are the sons of God.’ But some are not sons/daughters in practise. They are slaves and cripples living way below their potential. Jesus came to set such captives free. The gospel of the Kingdom as it applies to sons, means that we are liberators in the Spirit of Christ. Where the spirit of religion exists there is darkness and paralysis. Where the Spirit of the Lord is there is liberty and opportunity. The Spirit of Sonship binds people to Christ, makes Him their life and opens them to advance into infinite possibility.

‘And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God’ 1 Cor 6.11 NIV.
