No person who picked up the Bible to read their way to a knowledge of God would ever acquire the Adventist version of the gospel. It’s not there. This other gospel is the product of a special pleading and a peculiar reading of God’s word through the Ellen White Lens. This lens is firstly her books and secondly the socialising into Adventism that takes place through the lesson study, church and the system of education - all of which exists to propagate the Adventist ‘Message.’ The result is that many Adventist journey through life as sleep-walkers in a gospel that is not the gospel and actually contrary to the Bible and the intention of God.

It's as if there has been a subtle conspiracy to undo the achievements of Father, Son and Holy Spirit to give us a life in Christ from first to last.

Many Adventists eventually leave their Adventism. Moses spent 40 years in the wilderness to get Egypt out and God in. This might be a parable of Adventism. To have been socialised into Adventism is to have been acculturated into a certain view of the way things are between God and you. You’d be surprised how much of what you think is real about God and about heaven is a product of your Adventism. But it’s not necessarily so. The way things are is the way things are according to what God says in His word. There are not two words. Only one and only one is authentic and worthy of being a foundation for our picture of God and His universe. A fact check of SDA belief reveals that our schema of the way things are is almost entirely attributable to Ellen White and her red books.

‘Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life’ John 5.24 NIV.

‘And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow--not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love’ Rom 8.38 NIV.

You can take comfort in the fact that because you believe in Christ, you will go immediately to enjoy His company the moment your body dies. This is what the Bible teaches and what the Christian church, unencumbered by the austerity doctrine of Adventism believes. This was our reward before Adventism came on the scene with its ‘other gospel’ and
it remains so today.

We would do ourselves a good turn if we could realise that if it's not in the Bible it’s not an accurate view of heaven and earth and the relationship between the two. We would do better to read the Bible, firstly through the Jesus lens and secondly through the Bible itself and dispense with our Ellen White/Adventist glasses. You will search in vain for the episode in which Moses is raised from the dead in the Bible. It’s not there and not there because it never happened. Christ is the firstborn from the dead and the one and only representative of the new creation.

‘And he is the head of the body, the church; he is the beginning and the firstborn from among the dead, so that in everything he might have the supremacy’ Col 1.18 NIV.

‘And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood’ Rev 1.5 NIV.

Adventism appears to support its doctrine from the Bible. What is really happening however is that the scripture is being twisted and wrestled into supporting ‘distinctives’ that neutralise both the gospel and the good parts of it like the comfort of going to be with Jesus on the death of our body. These ‘distinctives’ distort the testimony of scripture by reliance on whacky personalities and special pleading. If you are looking for a mean view of God you will find it in Ellen White’s gospel. If you had certainty of salvation before you became an Adventist you will not have it once you have become one. When William Dampier first set eyes in Australian Aborigines, he described them as the miserablest people on the face of the earth. He could well have been describing Adventists and their insecurity about salvation.

It’s interesting that Adventists should scamper about touting ‘hope’ when at death they expect to spend from scores to thousands of years in oblivion. In contrast Paul expected to ‘depart and be with Christ.’ If Paul thought this way so should you. Those who approach their physical demise from
this point of view can do so with a degree of good humour, if not delight. Their hope can be more than ‘whistling in the dark’ and the preaching of a beggars hope.

‘I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far’ Phil 1.23 NIV.

Adventism thinks that the law is the expression of God’s character. Wrong again. Jesus is the exact expression of God’s character. He lives in you and imparts Himself to you. By the Spirit.

‘The Son is the radiance of God's glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven’ Heb 1.3 NIV.

The Bible says law is a school master to lead us to Christ. Adventism says ‘Christ helps us keep the law.’ Here is a humbug inversion that undoes the gospel of the Kingdom and substitutes the law of self-effort. Don’t expect to minister spirit and life as an Adventist. You minister ideology and death.

Tied to the law, Adventism is bereft of the Holy Spirit. Here Holy Spirit is a concept, never a reality. But it has its own parallel and counterfeit - the health message. Seeing the human spirit never gets to be alive because it is comatose in the law it needs some from of resurrection - the illusion of spirit and life through eating! I like food! It has many pleasures and comforts. But none of it, not even the Lord’s Table can impart life. It is the Lord who is the Spirit Himself who imparts life. The Lord’s Table is a shadow of that which our daily reality in the new testament age. You cannot eat your way into spirituality through vegetarianism and whole grains. These are good things but of no help to a spirit that is dead and soul that is strangled by the law. Jesus said that the flesh means nothing. What counts is spirit and life - His Spirit connecting to our spirit, His life igniting our life with His person.

Adventism says the law is the key issue of salvation history. Jesus says the Fatherhood of God is the key issue. The sub-issue is the security of our sonship in our Father and our authority to multiply what Jesus began. In the law we are fatherless. In Christ we are in our Father.

‘Dear friends, now we are children of God, and what we will be has not yet been made known. But we know that when Christ appears, we shall be like him, for we shall see him as he is’ 1 John 3.2 NIV.

Since Adventism lives in the law it lives in Adam and the knowledge of good and evil. But the person of faith, the son or daughter of God lives in God. We were made to live in God and have been repositioned in Him. Today we and Father are one. Live from where you are!

Adventism upholds the law out of honour to God. But God in His word says, ‘I do not set aside the grace of God, for if righteousness could be gained through the law, Christ died for nothing!’ Gal 2.21 NIV.

There is an order to the universe today. But this is not Moses laws. It is Christ in you.

Adventism says that in the new testament age the key issue is the law in you and kept by you in the flesh. The Bible says that in this age the difference between the kingdoms of this world and the kingdom of God; the dividing line between the doctrine of demons and the gospel of the Kingdom is agreement with the fact that Christ by the Spirit has come in the flesh to be your life.

‘I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist’ 2 John 1.7 NIV.

We would do well to contemplate the possibility that what appears to be a benign version of Christianity is actually a ploy of the anti-christ to dull the Believer and render him/her impotent. We need to recognise that what began with a mistake ended in a furphy and this furphy is called Adventism - together with its alternative gospel and well-meaning bureaucracy and Sabbath fetish.

Every facet of Adventism exists to support the Investigative Judgement. This includes the law, the Sabbath and the
state of the dead. Not only did the pioneers get egg on their face as a result of ignoring Jesus declaration about the ‘day and the hour’ being unknown. They multiplied their foolishness by manufacturing the Investigative Judgment and then supporting it with the reification of the law, the Messiah of the Sabbath and soul sleep.

None who knew their life in Jesus’ new and living new covenant way would have accepted Adventism’s deification of the law. Because Ellen White and the pioneers were ignorant of the new covenant and life in the Spirit, The Sabbath was employed as false grace and
alternate Messiah. Because no human can keep the law an illusion is required to make this look feasible. This supposed feasibility is sought in the Sabbath - not consciously but by a default artifice of the soul. Yet the heart knows this is a false anchor and the heart always worries that it has not ‘done enough.’

Then there is the
state of the dead where the device of soul-sleep is employed to facilitate the validity of the Investigative Judgment. It needs help because one could not have Believers going to be with Jesus before their cases had been judged at the tribunal. (‘You can’t have people getting off that easy!’) The fact is, however that all humans have been pronounced innocent and free on account of Jesus and His cross. The innocent life of Jesus belongs to all. It is possessed by those who agree that Christ is their life. And because of Jesus all who put their trust in Him have passed immediately from death to life.

‘Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life’ John 5.24 NIV.

The entirety of humanity has been made one with God in Jesus Christ. Those who possess the gift of life are those who have embraced what is theirs. To the Believer the gift of life is that freely given life that is not found in any self-effort of their own. Neither is it found in any desperate grasping at pleasure or in the self-construction of their identity through the possession of things or position or in any resort to materialism, or in any philosophy or religion that is not Christ and His life.

Jesus is the life of all humanity. First for the non-religious and secondly for all who have made a god of religion. They must grasp it. To the Jew and the religious person their inheritance is not to be found in the law, old covenant or religion of any kind. To the non-believer it is not found in any re-invention and construction of the self. Christ is all and in all. He is entirely our life. Our inheritance is to live as sons of God in the spirit of sonship and as sons who flourish in the Father of life. One more thing. To believe in Jesus is to have passed from death to life. Dispense with your false ‘blessed hope’ and get yourself a real hope in which Jesus and you are one and all that is His is yours!
