Truth sets us free. It is the ground of our being and the climate for infinite growth. Paul stated the fundamental truth when he wrote: In God we live, move and have our being.’ Here we find who we are and encounter reality.

‘Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent’ John 17.3 NIV. God cannot be know as He is through Adventism is but all can know God through the Christ who removes veils of distortion. The key is to live from the Christ of God and not from a christ of our own making.

We need to live in the real Jesus and the reality Jesus has created for us. Not in our perceived reality or a reality handed down by people who don’t know. This is why we must live in the present reality of the new covenant and not in an old and passé reality of the old covenant and a life that is no longer stymied in the illusions of Adam. The reality that is ours today is that we and our Father are one.

‘He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant--not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life’ 2 Cor 3.6 NIV. If the Spirit gives life, then it is certain that the law brings death.

Two scholars in the sociology of knowledge wrote a seminal work entitled,
‘The Social Construction of Reality.’ This simply means that we will think real what our surrounding culture thinks is real. Examples of this in the past were the notion that the earth is flat and that life occurs due to spontaneous generation. Advances in science and medicine occur because researchers are willing to test the truth of what has mostly been assumed. Advances in our life in God occur because truth tellers seek the truth, uncover the truth and re-establish truth that has been lost or covered in myths and fables. In Christ our veils are removed. But this involves living in the Christ of God and not in christ’s we have invented ourselves or had presented to us by false prophets.

‘I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist’ 2 John 1.7 NIV.

Since reality is Christ we need to live in His reality. The reality is that He is our life. Dallas Willard wrote a fine book entitled, ‘The Divine Conspiracy.’ In it he explains how God has re-drawn us into the life if the trinity. Many Believers think they live in separation from God when the truth is that God has drawn all who believe into Himself. Some believers remain chained to the law and the old covenant in separation and spiritual death, despite the fact that they have been made one with God in Christ. Separation is the reality they live in because this is their mind – which is not the mind of Christ or the Father or the Spirit. But because they have made a reality of separation they live in separation when their real inheritance is union with God.

Living in the real and disgarding pseudo-comforts of the false is the road less travelled. But it is the road that leads to eternal life and which brings that life into the present. Living in reality comes at a cost but results eventually in enhanced well-being. Self-centered determination to live in our own reality and reject all other conceptions produces the illusions of people like Donald Trump, the suggestion of ‘alternative facts’ and the substitution of truth for fantasy and self-deception. A denomination that lives in alternative truth lives in death.

Kathy Gottberg in The Huffington Post writes, ‘First off. I think it is important to acknowledge that [you create your own reality] is not just another new age statement. While the exact phrase, “you create your own reality” may have come from Jane Roberts back in the 1970s, others have expressed similar ideas for several millennia. The Buddha said, “What you dwell upon you become.” Jesus said, “It is done unto you as you believe.” Hindu mysticism from Shankaracharya says, “Whatever a person’s mind dwells on intensely and with firm resolve, that is exactly what he becomes.” It says in the Talmud, “We do not see things as they are, we see them as we are.”

All this means that it is important to see things as God is. God is known in Christ. Jesus is the human face of God. In I AM we are not only who we really are. We break through the illusions of the knowledge of good and evil to live in the light.

‘The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone’ John 1.4 NLT

We have the privilege of intimacy with God. I have friend who is striving to be done with sin so that he can be intimate with Jesus. I believed the same for many years. But you are already intimate with Jesus because He has brought you to Himself and the Father. This is your reality and your truth. It is not our doing. Just a fact. As in Adam all became sinners, so in Christ all have become righteous sons of God. We are included. We have been positioned in the Holy Family. Live from where He has placed you and flourish as a son!
