If Jesus Christ is fully God and fully man – and He is – then God and man are joined together in an accomplishment entirely of God’s doing.

Jesus Christ is one substance with God and human beings are one substance with Christ and therefore with God. It is this oneness with God that is already ours that needs to be realised if we are to make any headway as the new creation Kingdom of God.


‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you’ John 14.20.

“In its way the Nicene formulation of the homoousion* may be said.. to be not unlike some of the great events in the history of science in which the rational structure of human knowledge of the created universe has been profoundly revised in a way upon which we cannot go back, even if our understanding of nature may have to be reformulated in the light of the deeper knowledge of the universe to which the revised structure of science gave rise.” (1)

The big event of the human age is not the fall. The titanic event of the ages is the resurrection of the Christ and the beginning of the new creation in the person of Jesus Christ multiplied in us. The reality in which we live is that we have been made one with God and therefore one with God.


Jesus Christ, a man from Nazareth came among us as the Son of God. The Niceane Creed clearly defines Him as having one substance with God. The Christ always was. All things have come into being through Him, are sustained by Him and have their reason and purpose in Him. This has been called the cosmic Christ. But it is this Christ WHO IS IN YOU – the incarnated Christ who becomes you without you losing your ‘you’ and with you gaining your identity as a son in spirit and in truth.


In Ephesians 1.10, Paul writes that The Plan is for Jesus Christ to bring all things together in Himself. This is quite a statement given the polarised nature of the world, seen in American and Australian politics. It could even suggest that much of what we know as Christianity is not the Kingdom of God and certainly the opposite of the new creation. Richard Rohr observes that “The coming of the Cosmic Christ is not the same as the growth of the Christian religion. It is the unification of all things.”


The unification of all things occurs as we agree with the incarnation; as we rest in the fact that Christ is our life and therefore the trinity woven into our being is the reality that is making the Kingdom of God real in our persons and neighbourhood.

Where is the law in all this? It is nowhere. The law served to lead to Christ. Now that Christ has come He is our life as He asserts in the words of John. ‘Many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist’ 2 John 1.7 NIV.
