What we get from Christ, is much more than a judicial acquittal as our inheritance. We get a state of being – fellowship and communion with God. The Lord’s Table is not a moping session about the cross to get ourselves sad enough to do better. The Lord’s Table is the sign that our normal life is one substance with God.
In the law we never get beyond externalities - with the result that law based faith does not produce spirituality. It replicates ‘try harderism’ and seldom met intentions. In the Spirit, Godliness becomes you because YOU ARE A SON.
As genuine disciples of Jesus and sons and daughters of God we must reject reductionist teaching that reduces relationship to law and God to a school master enforcing the rules and caning miscreants. These views give rise to spiritual and sexual abuse, not to mention the slander that is implied against god and the niggardly poverty version of godliness that is multiplied as christianity.
The schoolmaster of the law leads to Christ but Christ does not lead to the law. He leads to unlimited spirit and life by joining us to the fullness of God in Himself and making His relationship with God our relationship with God. “The economic Trinity and the ontological Trinity overlap with one another and belong to one another, and can no more be separated than the Act of God can be separated from his Being or his Being from his Act.” (1)
The solution to increasing world chaos is Christ in us expressed as us. We call this incarnation. It results in new creation life – otherwise known as the Kingdom of God.
