ROOTED IN SUBSTANCE

I find it disturbing that there are good people who think that a fix for Adventism is to be found in bolting Holy Spirit like a super-charger onto the Adventist engine. To use another metaphor, this is no more effective than putting a saddle on a dog and treating it as a horse. A stockman cannot make a horse out of a dog and we cannot make the Kingdom of God out of Adventism.
APOSTLES TEACHING
Adventism must be aligned with Christ’s gospel of the Kingdom before there is any joy in Holy Spirit as a pick-me-up.
Attempts have been made to revive Adventism with the anointing of Holy Spirit and with charismatic usages. This begins well but goes nowhere. That which begins with hope bleeds out and goes dormant while those who put their faith in this method walk about in circles going over old ground looking for new solutions to the problem of living in the separation from God that is the letter and the law.
ADAMIC SEPARATON
We will not revive a body of death by adding an ‘anointing of the Spirit’ to dead old covenant, separationist bones.
The addition of Holy Spirit to Adventism does not morph into the Kingdom of God because Holy Spirit has no root. In the new covenant age Holy Spirit and the gifts grow from our union with God achieved by the finished work of Jesus and the complete and all sufficient at-one-ment of Christ. Kingdom fruitfulness comes from rootedness in the soil of the trinity. Nothing of value can come from having roots in the abstraction of the law.
Christ come in the flesh is the Gospel of the Kingdom. The law come in you is the flesh come in the flesh and a delusion of the anti-christ spirit.
DECEIVED GOSPEL
‘I say this because many deceivers, who do not acknowledge Jesus Christ as coming in the flesh, have gone out into the world. Any such person is the deceiver and the antichrist’ 2 John 1.7 NIV.
DIFFERENT GOSPEL
Adventism is not just a variation on the gospel. It’s a different gospel. It knows nothing of the new covenant other than to ignore it. It believes in the law come in the flesh instead of Christ come in the flesh. The incarnation is a word and not a reality. It embodies an incomplete atonement and a diluted cross. It makes the Sabbath its grace and Messiah and relies on a ‘health message’ instead of the Holy Spirit to fill our being with spirit and life. There’s no life in the Spirit for Adventism because it is a religion of the law and the flesh.
Jesus did not come to provide a fix for life in the knowledge of good and evil. He came to be our life and through us to be build the new creation. We can ignore this if we choose and still go to heaven. But we will not bring heaven to earth in our lifetime or touch anyone with His spirit and life.
